There is one detail that jumped out at me in this review that I'm super curious about now, the red notebook. In Auster's 4321 there is also a red notebook, referenced at times as the scarlet notebook. I don't know if there is any deeper meaning or connection between various books with the red notebook serving as the connecting thread or if it is simply a fun easter egg he likes to throw in as a detail across his stories! Great review Joel!
