Brilliant interview Joel. What a fascinating individual. I am going to need to check out that translation of Virgil. Appreciate the depth and scope of your questions. Makes for a very good read. All the best, Matthew
Great interview Joel. Made me think of Emily Wilson and her recent translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey. I think in her interviews she said something similar to Shadi, in terms of being conscious in her translations of how the inclusion of one word can impact our understanding of a character in the story (e.g. Dido, in Shadi's case.)
Have just ordered a hardback copy - I'm so tired of these cheesy paperbacks of classical works that require the strength of Hercules to hold them in a readable position. The interview is the second I've read which came to similar conclusions....yours by far the best! Couldn't resist! Thanks for being there, Mr. Miller.
Great interview!
Thanks, Douglas!

Wonderful! Glad it connected. I was delighted with her answers. Thanks for reading, Matthew!

Very good article, thanks for sharing!
I haven’t read the entire interview yet but I was really hoping for an answer to the last question!

What a great closing line. She’s probably right, too! I’ll definitely get her Vergil translation.
