I sometimes think about my own mini-Alexandria library. Many subjects, but probably the majority being theological, business, history, and military studies. I have a significant number (I’ve never counted) of physical books, but also a growing library of digital books. I sometimes wonder whether, when I’m gone, there will be people who appreciate them as much as I do. Will they end up rotting somewhere (the physical books) or disappear in a binary flash (the digital books)? Makes me a little sad.

Ed, that’s an undercurrent in the whole book. I remember when my Grandpa Olson died. He had a good-sized library. I don’t remember where all of the books ended up. Many of them went to my aunt Chris. I was able to keep two: an edition of TS Eliot’s poetry and a copy of AE Houseman’s ‘Shropshire Lad.’
