I’m in the BHAG group. Better to aim really high and fall short than to set safe comfortable goals. Some would say if you’re accomplishing all your goals you simply aren’t challenging yourself. The summit is never as rewarding as the climb.
Am eager to know more about your book. Sounds like it’s as thorough as a doctoral dissertation. I edited Reference & Academic at Nelson ‘91-‘99, surely before your time.
Joel, thanks for the update. I enjoy your writing, so will watch for further reviews. I've actually read A Lesson before Dying and have the book. Please take the time that you need. Will say a prayer for you.
West With the Night is so good! I listened to a fantastic audio recording of it a few years ago and was swept away. Funnily, though, the reader was American and at some point in the listening I realized it would have been more accurate to have a British reader, but she read so well, I couldn’t complain.
I look forward to seeing your writing again in 2025 -- best wishes for a productive December, and Merry Christmas! Looking forward to reading your book.
Joel, I think it's great to have a goal AND a contract. May the wind fill your sails and the seas be favorable. And when your book makes landfall, I'll be looking to buy an autographed copy. Best!
I look forward to having a copy of your book in my hands.
I will welcome returning to my Saturday morning ritual of reading your reviews when you pick that up again.
Your work is genuinely appreciated by lovers of books such as myself.
Ephie, thank you so much! It’s responses like this that makes it so rewarding.
Prayers for smooth writing progress! Let us know when we can pre-order! I am eager to read this book.
Thanks! I think the pre-order will probably be available in early 2025. I’ll keep you posted.
Discovering your Substack has been a highlight of 2024 for me, but I can go without some posts if there's a book that results!
Thanks for reading all this time! I hope you enjoy the book, too!

We just missed each other! I came in 2003.
I can't wait for the book and look forward to the things you write! Have a Great December!
Thanks, John!

No goal policing from me, but A Lesson Before Dying is reeeeeally good.
LOL. I’ll be reading it soon!

Head down and kick for the finish! Congratulations on the contract, and it looks like a great project.
Thanks, David! Nearly there!
