Joel, I think you would like Philip Jose Farmer's sci-fi works, especially To Your Scattered Bodies Go.

I’ve never heard of him. Must check him out! Thank you!

I remember the shock of discovering (along with the main character) that the News was all a lie. I must have been 14. PT just rocked me and got me started on a lifetime of reading Dick. This is a fine essay on the novel which, as you point out, so relevant to today.

Interesting! I hadn’t come across this one by Philip K. Dick. It sounds as though he might have drawn on E.M. Forster’s remarkable 1909 novella “The Machine Stops.”

I just finished reading "I Am Alive and You Are Dead: A Journey into the Mind of Philip K. Dick" by Emmanuel Carrère. As a fairly prolific author myself, this work caused me to recognize something in myself that, if not controlled and metered out sensibly, could lead to a breakdown like the one Dick had. I've read some of Dick's work over the years--can't remember which novels or stories--and I liked the richness of his worlds.

Thanks for your article.
