I enjoyed this review very much. Living in a country where a son of a former dictator now rules, Edel’s story speaks to what I fear my country is beginning to forget--the sacredness of human freedom and the pain that ensues when this value is sacrificed to a charismatic but self-interested leader.
We’ve returned to a darker period in our history. And your review makes me wonder whether leaving is the only way out?
"Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite." Galbraith
LOL. Perfect.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through that. Leaving is, sadly, sometimes the best option. But as you well know there are huge costs in that trade.
"Illuminations" - YES!
The term fits perfectly for this one.
Beyond apt!
Thanks for this rec, I need a graphic novel for my reading challenge!
I hope you enjoy it. I was thoroughly captivated. And I’d never experienced a story like this—real life—told through images. Powerful.
Definitely want to read this this year. Hopefully in Miami. 🙂
The perfect setting.
Excellent review, and a chilling reminder of why our freedom in America is important to defend and protect.
Amen. It’s not a given, and it can go away.
