Interesting! I ask my sons to gift me a book that they found especially meaningful not expecting to always enjoy it myself, but as a window into their hearts. One son gave me Piranesi, not one I would have picked, and I loved it!
Now, try pleasing everyone in a book club...no one thin skinned can survive.
Right, Joel? One year for Christmas I asked my family to give me a book they enjoyed themselves. Almost without exception, I was disappointed with the books. I have one friend I have all but stopped recommending books to; he publicly reviews his annual reading list, and the books I recommended he regularly ranks low. He even had criticisms of one of MY books. Just proves your point: not every book is for everybody. Gift cards for books? Genius.

That’s a great way to look at it. Also: I’ve heard great things about Piranesi! I thought about reading it next year.
This is spot on! Merry Christmas Joel!
Merry Christmas, Lee!

LOL. I feel your pain. It’s actually kind of funny how distant we can be on books. What lights one person’s fire dampens their neighbor’s.
