I had the privilege of hearing her speak at Butler University in the late 90’s at their Visiting Writers Series. She was an imposing figure - tall and deep-voiced. It was something I’ll never forget.
I read this awhile back and was absolutely fascinated. First by the very idea of the story and then the thoughts of being in that horrific time period and the need to survive her experiences. Really is a very interesting read. Read several of Butler’s others in the time period as well. A very unusual writer with some very original ideas. Enjoyed the books i read.
I'm not much of a fan of sci-fi and I don't care for time travel, but this book sounds amazing! The time travel isn't a gimmick, but is the whole point of the story. The questions and quandries it raises sound like it would be a very worthwhile read. Thank you for sharing your review and introducing me to this book ❤️

Absolutely. It’s only technically sci-fi because that was Octavia Butler’s chosen genre, and I don’t think they knew where else to slot it.
