Does re-listening to books on audio count? I think I'm on my third re-listen to All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot. Plus I've done that with Tony Hillerman and Craig Allen Johnson books. Hmmm.
Definitely. While the experience of reading vs. listening is far different, audiobooks are just another format. Also: I love All Creatures! However, my experience wasn’t reading or listening. It was the old BBC show. I’ve seen the first several seasons about a million times.
Ah, me too! But I do remember riding on the bus getting ready to take a back packing trip, reading All Creatures Great and Small, and actually laughing (well, snorting) out loud on some of those antics that ole Tristian would get up into! George Guidall one of my favorite Read Out Loud Artists!
I realized a few years ago that I'm surrounded by roughly two lifetime's worth of books. And that's OK. I'll do my best. I likely will not read "Brothers K," despite a good Russian friend's urgent and repeated recommendation. I will certainly never read Joyce. One of my dearest friends in the world told me I should give "Moby Dick" a second chance, having actually had some life experiences. I probably will. I read and reread a lot of Conrad about seven years ago. I want to read and appreciate more poetry. There is so much about Robinson Jeffers I love but don't fully grasp. I accept that it's all too much. I'm grateful for what I can get.
Thanks, Ben, for the encouragement and joining in the fun! I’ve definitely got some books I reread and plan to reread, but it’s humbling to contemplate how incredibly much we’ll never have time to discover, let alone read and wrestle with.

Thanks for all that you do here, Joel.

Thank you, Joel. I mention you in my latest: https://nicethings.substack.com/p/a-drink-a-book-and-a-song-iii
That’s awesome. Many thanks!
Excellent use of the word “interlocutors”.
When it fits, it fits.
